Johns Island · Johns Island, SC
Low Tide Brewing was Johns Island's first brewery, opening on Maybank Highway in March 2016. Founder Mike Fielding traces the idea back to a 2012 kayaking trip around the island, and the brewery has grown into one of the Lowcountry's most popular taprooms in the years since.
The rotating tap list leans into approachable, seasonable styles alongside more adventurous fruited sours. You'll find beers like the Lime Kolsch, Purdy Good IPA, a chocolate porter, and creative sours such as a Carolina Creamsicle, plus wheat beers and IPAs that change with the seasons. Low Tide also brews exclusive collaboration beers for local restaurants and Kiawah's Ocean Course clubhouse.
This is a community-minded spot rather than a full restaurant. There's no in-house kitchen, but rotating food trucks park outside, and the outdoor seating area comes with fire pits and cornhole. The taproom is family-friendly, with regular events like Monday night bingo rounding out the calendar.
Low Tide is expanding: a large new production facility off Maybank Highway is in the works to scale up brewing, while the original Maybank Highway taproom continues to serve as the everyday gathering place. For visitors heading to or from Kiawah and Seabrook, it's a natural first or last stop on the island.
