Breweries on James Island, SC

2 breweries in James Island

James Island sits between downtown Charleston and Folly Beach, which makes its taprooms a natural stop on the way to or from the coast. It's an easy detour whether you're heading out to the sand or circling back into the city, and the island's breweries reflect that mix of beach-town ease and neighborhood familiarity.

Fam's Brewing Co., on Folly Road, opened in 2017 as a brewpub that pairs its own beer with Famulari's Pizzeria. You'll find both Chicago-style and New York-style pizza, 20 beers on tap, two full bars, and a large biergarten with a dog-friendly patio, making it a solid choice for a full family meal as much as a pint.

Charles Towne Fermentory expanded to the island in September 2024 with a taproom and production space off Signal Point Road. This space pours more than a dozen taps plus cider and wine, with televisions, video games, pinball, rotating food trucks, and a small outdoor area, all in view of the brewing equipment.

Together they give James Island a full-service brewpub and a lively, amenity-packed taproom, covering both the sit-down-dinner crowd and the drop-in-for-a-flight crowd.
