Breweries on Folly Beach, SC

1 brewery in Folly Beach

Folly Beach is the closest beach to downtown Charleston, a laid-back surf town at the end of Folly Road with a fishing pier, a walkable Center Street, and a beer scene that has long meant beach bars rather than breweries. That changed when Revelry Brewing opened a satellite taproom here, giving the island its first beachside brewery and the only place on Folly to drink beer brewed by a Charleston brewery at its own taproom.

Revelry Brewing Co. Folly Beach sits on Center Street, a short walk from the sand, tucked down an alleyway into a hidden courtyard. The setup is entirely outdoors, with hammocks, couches, blankets for cool evenings, and a purple-lit entrance that makes it easy to find after dark. The beer comes from Revelry's downtown Charleston brewery, and a short menu of ten to twelve items is served through a partnership with The Bounty Bar. Leashed dogs are welcome, and the space is geared toward adults rather than kids.

Parking is standard Folly Beach street parking, which fills up on summer weekends. If you are spending the day at the beach, the easiest plan is to park once near Center Street and walk to the taproom later in the afternoon. In the evening the courtyard is a quieter alternative to the bars along Center Street.

The drive to Folly runs straight down Folly Road across James Island, which puts two more breweries on the way. Fam's Brewing Co., a pizza brewpub with a large biergarten, sits right on Folly Road, and Charles Towne Fermentory's James Island taproom is a short detour off it. Together they make an easy beach-day beer route: a stop on James Island on the way out or back, and the Folly courtyard once you are on the island.
