Charles Towne Fermentory - Avondale

Charles Towne Fermentory began here in 2016, making the Avondale taproom the original home of the West Ashley brewery brand. It occupies the former Lyerly's Dry Cleaning building on Savannah Highway, in the walkable Avondale district just off the peninsula.

The brewery runs a 15-barrel system on-site and leans toward hop-forward ales and fermentation-driven beers, the styles that built its local reputation. The taproom keeps a current rotating list rather than a fixed menu, and you'll find that small-batch, hop-forward focus across the pours.

This is a small, neighborhood-scale taproom rather than a sprawling beer hall. There's no permanent kitchen, so rotating food trucks and local food pop-ups handle the food side, giving the menu the same changeable character as the tap list.

The Avondale spot is kid-friendly, and it has earned recognition on local best-of brewery lists. As the first of three Charles Towne Fermentory locations, it remains the most central and the easiest to reach from downtown across the Ashley River.
