North Charleston · North Charleston, SC
COAST Brewing Co., founded in 2007 near Park Circle, was one of the Lowcountry's first craft breweries and remains a pioneer of the local scene. The small, family-owned operation sits on the old Navy base in North Charleston, across from Noisette Creek, just a short distance from the breweries clustered around Park Circle.
From the beginning, COAST has leaned into organic and local ingredients. That independent, sustainability-minded ethos has long defined the brand, along with flagship beers like the hop-forward HopArt IPA, the soft and easy-drinking 32/50 Kolsch, and the bigger Boy King double IPA.
A 2022 renovation reshaped the visitor experience, adding a full taproom built around a walnut bar, a stage, and a wraparound porch with outdoor deck seating. The kitchen is a distinguishing feature: it serves elevated bar food and fries everything in tallow rather than seed oils, with plates such as grass-fed burgers, blistered shishito peppers, and crispy potatoes.
Dog-friendly, kid-friendly, and unpretentious, COAST offers a more intimate counterpoint to the area's larger production breweries. You'll find a taproom that rewards a slower visit, where the focus stays on well-made, independently brewed beer and a clear point of view about how it's made.
