James Island · Charleston, SC
Charles Towne Fermentory expanded to James Island in September 2024, opening its newest taproom and production space off Signal Point Road. It's the brand's third location and grew out of a need for more brewing capacity, giving the company a larger production base while adding a fresh place to drink.
The taproom pours more than a dozen taps, with nonalcoholic options plus cider and wine rounding out the list. The interior features high ceilings and views of the brewing equipment, so you're drinking in sight of where the beer is made.
Entertainment is part of the draw here, with televisions, projection screens, video games, and pinball alongside a small outdoor area. Rotating food trucks set up on-site rather than an in-house kitchen, keeping the food offerings varied from visit to visit.
The James Island location is kid-friendly and has outdoor seating, and it sits conveniently between downtown Charleston and Folly Beach. For fans of the Avondale and Garden taprooms in West Ashley, it brings the same Charles Towne Fermentory beer to the island in a bigger, more amenity-packed space.
