Cainhoy · Charleston, SC
In the Cainhoy area near Daniel Island, Indigo Reef Brewing Co. pours in a quieter corner of the Lowcountry off Wambaw Creek Road. It opened in 2019 as the area's first standalone brewery, founded by Christopher and Nicole Ranere, who relocated from the Midwest. The scuba-diving theme runs throughout the space: the name nods to the couple's love of diving, paired with an indigo reference to the Lowcountry.
Everything on tap is brewed on-site, typically 14 or more house beers spanning blondes, pale ales, Belgian wheat styles, New England and Citra IPAs, and stouts, with wine and cider also available. One of the more notable releases is Depth Dweller, a barrel-aged imperial stout that took a 2025 World Beer Cup Gold Medal, a significant national award for a brewery this size.
Food comes from the in-house Cachita's Kitchen, with a menu of sliders, nachos, burgers, and shareable bites to go with the beer. The taproom is roomy, with indoor seating, a courtyard, and covered areas, and it's set up as a welcoming, family-friendly spot rather than an intimidating beer-geek hangout.
